Everyone has heard of the lovely Lake Tahoe, after all, it is the winter sport capital of the US! For those that don’t know, it is actually quite more than that. Tahoe is a wonderful place to visit year round, so long as you love beautiful views and the outdoors. On top of that, it is incredibly easy to access, as it is very close to major cities in Nevada and California. It’s just a one hour drive from Reno, two hours from Sacramento, and three from San Francisco! That makes it a perfect weekend getaway for millions of people! For those of you considering making the trek, we’ve put together a short guide on the lovely Tahoe area.

No matter where you go in Lake Tahoe, you will find plenty of things to do. If you are one to do a little anteing up while you are on vacation, you may want to consider staying on the Nevada side of the Lake, as this is where all of the casinos are. The Nevada side of the Lake by definition is also closer to Reno, in case you want to take a day trip. Maybe you are a hardcore skiier; if that is the case, you’re probably going to want to stay on the California side of the lake. The California side just so happens to be where almost all of the fan favorite slopes are!

Although Tahoe is known for its fantastic skiing, winter sports are not the only activities this area has to offer! Lake Tahoe offers some beautiful views year round, and it’s location in the Rocky Mountains makes the summer hiking to die for! No matter where you go around the lake, outdoor enthusiasts will have the time of their lives, as there are outdoor adventures around every corner.

Along the South Side of the lake are beautiful areas, like Emerald Bay, which offer both beautiful beaches and trailheads, for those that want to lounge around the beach, or venture out for a hike. There are also some fantastic lodging options, like the Heavenly Mountain Resort. This Lodge has it all, including ski slopes, an ice rink, Gondola, weekly shows for the family, and a ferris wheel! Heavenly is guaranteed to have something for everyone!

Although the South side of the lake has tons of stuff to do, the North side is nothing to scoff at! The North side of the lake also has wonderful ski resorts, like Northstar Ski Resort. Aside from it’s numerous ski runs, Northstar also has an 18 hole golf course, and a mountain biking park accessible by ski lift! Skiing isn’t your thing? No worries! The North side of lake has plenty of stuff to do in the Crystal Bay area. There you can find the Crystal Bay Casino, Speedboat Beach, Burnt Cedar Beach, and Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park. You can find beautiful views, and fantastic hiking and biking at both the beach and the park!
